if you’re reading this, then your little one it’s probably about to turn one…
and as a parent, you are probably preparing for a very special first birthday! As a mom, myself, I know firsthand how quickly that first year goes. One minute you’re holding a tiny newborn and the next minute you have a full fledge toddler. In my opinion, first birthday sessions are just as important as newborn photos. It’s the culmination of a whirlwind first year. And it’s just as much a celebration of you as the parent. You made it! You survived 365 days with your bundle of joy.
So now you’re preparing for your first birthday session and you’re probably wondering what do I do? That’s where I step in. When you book a first birthday session with me, I will send you over a questionnaire to get to know you and your family a little bit better before we meet. It’s also the perfect time for you to decide if you would like just first birthday portraits or do you want to include a smash cake? I even have some moms who prefer to do first birthday portraits and then jump in for a few photos with their little one.
The next thing to think about is what to have your little one wear! As a parent, you don’t have to fret when you book a first birthday session with me. I have a client closet full of the most beautiful first birthday outfits for your little one becomes completely complementary with any first birthday session. And all of the outfits are perfect neutrals so they’re timeless and also will work with the aesthetic of your home. And as a mom, if you do want to jump in to a few photos with them, then I offer a full client closet for moms as well Filled with dresses all styles in the sizes
Finally, many parents asked me where they should purchase first birthday cake. My recommendation is never to go overboard on a smash cake for photos because typically it’s their first time eating cake and some babies don’t enjoy it. However, others might go to town. My favorite place to pick up, a simple, white round first birthday cake is actually from Walmart. They are incredibly affordable and perfect for a simple, elegant first birthday smash cake.
As far as the best time to take first birthday pictures, I always recommend about three weeks before their birthday. This way you have plenty of time to have your photos, edited and back to you so that you can use them for birthday invitations or birthday party. the sessions are so special and are some of my absolute favorites to do. By this age babies are very mobile and so incredibly :-). It’s the perfect opportunity to capture the transition from baby to toddler.
