sweet, sweet Maddon…
After a couple of weeks in the nicu, we finally were able to get his newborn session scheduled, and let me just tell you he was an absolute dream. And his big brother Maxson, was the absolute sweetest and kept me laughing the entire time.
One of the things I love most about newborn sessions, are not just capturing newborns, but capturing a family as a whole. So many of these sweet babies have been prayed for, longed for, and loved long before they’ve ever arrived. So capturing the love between mom, dad, siblings and the newest member of the family is always my goal. My first priority is always family photos. I feel like it’s easiest to get these out-of-the-way first especially since attention spans wane quickly with younger ones. Some of my favorite family poses are having everyone sit on the bed together in the studio and cuddle in really close and then just “ooohhh and ahhhh” while staring a baby brother sister. I also love having everyone come in really close together and just close their eyes and take in the moment. if you have a newborn session with me, you will probably hear me say over and over again to keep your heads really close together. I always like to think of it as the triangle of love.
As far as poses with mom and dad, I love having mom hold the baby and dad just around the two of them and everyone snuggling really tight. Let’s be honest new babies can be really difficult and exhausting on a marriage or relationship, but when you’re holding that sweet bundle of joy, and the two of you are in a really tight embrace it often times re-centers you as a couple. You’re able to remember we’re in this together, and we’re a team.
Finally, some of my favorite images to capture pictures are with siblings. Usually, older siblings are always so excited to hold the baby. And typically they never have any problems kissing the baby or laying side-by-side the baby.
As always, my goal is to capture just the newness and freshness of your sweet baby. All of these details like their tiny toes and fingers grow and change so quickly. As a mom, myself, I know how fast babies grow, and I know how important these newborn images are, because before you know it, they’re turning one!
